Some very good points: very big bilingual synagogue (mostly English but most if the clergy can express themselves in French too). Beautiful, lots of young and professional events, things to get people together. But I also fibd that it's such a big congregation that it's also a bit cold, mostly on Shabbat. Too many people.. took 5 weeks before people started talking to me during kidush when I first started attending there

The oldest synagogue in North America is beautiful! Despite the unfortunate actions of some nutters who have tried to harm the building, the synagogue remains serene.

Beautiful! It's the perfect place for barmistva and other kind of meeting or religious celebration. Their collection of artefact and relic is incredible, I wish I had time to look at them more closely.

Whether you love to hear a solid sermon or sit and back in the musical cantorial masterpieces sung by an international Cantor. The shaar is a beautiful building. Friendly and warm people.I will certainly be back soon!

Very warm & welcoming open-orthodox shul w/a great daily minyan. Men and women sit in separate sections, but side by side w/out a mechitza -- there is a row of potted plants in the middle. They daven out of Artscroll ashkenaz. Morning minyan is followed by a breakfast. As a visitor I was very warmly welcomed. There's a bixi bike station a couple minutes from the shul, which I found very convenient.

The Shaar is my refuge in Montreal. Although I have yet to join, my family and friends are members. My nephew Josh still sings in the Choir on High Holy Days, though he moved to Toronto. It is time for me to join the Shaar's congregate family. I am single, over 70. I was moved by so much of last eve's Yom HaSho'ah remembrance.
